Copilot Readiness Sprint

Find out what Copilot will show your staff, before you switch it on

Copilot answers from every file a person can open, including files that were shared by mistake years ago. Over four weeks we track those down and close the gaps, then hand you a written plan for rolling Copilot out to the people who will use it.

How the Sprint works

Four weeks from a first look to a plan you can act on

We hand over a finished piece of work at the end of every week, so you can see progress as it happens. By week four you have a clear picture of your Microsoft 365 and a plan your team or IT provider can follow.

The Copilot Readiness Sprint runs for four weeks at a fixed price.

  1. Week 1, Where you stand: A readiness score and a risk register, so you know exactly where you start.
  2. Week 2, Who can see what: Sharing, permissions, MFA and access checked, and overshared links closed.
  3. Week 3, Rules and guardrails: Purview labels and data rules planned, and an AI usage policy for staff.
  4. Week 4, Your plan: What to fix first, who gets a licence first, and how to roll it out.

Your Sprint pack: Readiness score, Risk register, Permissions map, AI usage policy, Rollout plan.

What we check

How do you know who can open your payroll file today?

Most firms can’t say for sure. Sharing builds up over the years: a link sent to everyone for one meeting, a team site nobody closed when the team changed. Copilot can find anything a person has access to, so in week two we map it all and close what shouldn’t be open. This is what that looks like.

An access map of who can see what. A scan finds three links that open files wider than intended: payroll shared with anyone who has the link, HR contracts on an old team site, and board minutes in a whole-company folder.

Asked to summarise this year’s pay rises, Copilot finds the payroll file. The Sprint closes the three links and adds Purview labels. Asked again, Copilot finds nothing the person shouldn’t see. Ready for Copilot.

After four weeks

What you can do once the Sprint is finished

The written plan is the obvious part. The bigger change is that you can make decisions about Copilot based on facts about your own firm.

Switch Copilot on without worrying what it might surface

Overshared files are closed and sensitive ones are labelled, so Copilot only answers from what each person should see.

Pay for licences only where they earn their keep

You start with the roles that will use Copilot every day, and add more once it is paying for itself.

Answer clients and insurers who ask how you control AI

Your usage policy and Purview labels are written evidence you can send when the question comes up.

Let anyone carry out the plan

It is written so your own IT person, your current provider or ABCOM can pick it up and run with it.

What usually comes next

Your roadmap after the Sprint

1

First

A pilot group

Switch Copilot on for a handful of people with the guardrails already in place, and see what they use it for.

2

Next

Team by team

Roll it out one team at a time, with a short workshop for each so people know what to ask it.

3

Later

Your own systems

Connect Copilot to the systems you already run, such as SQL databases, through Azure.

We can do any of this with you at a fixed price, or your IT provider can run it from the plan.

FAQs

Copilot questions, answered

Answers from ABCOM, an NCSC Assured Service Provider.

Will Copilot show people files they shouldn’t see?

Copilot only shows people what they can already open. The catch is that files are often shared more widely than anyone realises, and Copilot makes them much quicker to find. The Sprint finds and fixes that first.

What is Microsoft Purview?

Microsoft’s tools for labelling sensitive files and setting rules on how they’re shared. We use it to keep things like payroll and HR documents with the right people, wherever the file ends up.

Do we need a Copilot licence for everyone?

Usually not. The Sprint shows which roles will get real use from Copilot, so you can start with them and add more when it’s paying off.

What happens after the 4 weeks?

You get a plan and a schedule. You can carry it out yourselves, or we can roll it out with you, including workshops and on-site help.

Can Copilot work with our own systems?

Yes. Our Azure engineers can connect Copilot to SQL databases and the other systems you use, keeping the same permissions in place.

Do we need to change IT provider?

No. We work alongside whoever looks after your IT now, and hand everything over in writing.
